According to The Hill, the DCCC has targeted 14 Republican incumbents for web/phone/radio hits starting on Monday. Here’s the full list, including each district’s Presidential vote in the last two cycles:
State | CD | Incumbent | Kerry ’04 | Bush ’04 | Gore ’00 | Bush ’00 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
AK | AL | Young | 36 | 61 | 28 | 59 |
CO | 4 | Musgrave | 41 | 58 | 37 | 57 |
IL | 10 | Kirk | 53 | 47 | 51 | 47 |
MI | 9 | Knollenberg | 49 | 51 | 47 | 51 |
MO | 6 | Graves | 42 | 57 | 44 | 53 |
NC | 8 | Hayes | 45 | 54 | 46 | 54 |
NJ | 7 | Ferguson | 47 | 53 | 48 | 49 |
NM | 1 | Wilson | 51 | 48 | 48 | 47 |
NV | 3 | Porter | 49 | 50 | 49 | 48 |
NY | 25 | Walsh | 50 | 48 | 51 | 45 |
NY | 29 | Kuhl | 42 | 56 | 43 | 53 |
PA | 3 | English | 47 | 53 | 47 | 51 |
VA | 2 | Drake | 42 | 58 | 43 | 55 |
WV | 2 | Capito | 42 | 57 | 44 | 54 |
However, only seven districts (NC-08, MI-09, AK-AL, NV-03, NY-25, WV-02 and MO-06) are getting the radio ads. But this is a good indicator, perhaps, of the districts that the DCCC plans to aggressively contest next year. While many of these look tough, dynamite candidates in State Senator John Unger and Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes (MO-06) could very well be map changers.
Has Mark Begich, mayor of Anchorage, stated whether he is going to challenge Young, challenge Stevens, or sit the cycle out? I remember reading that he was being approached by both the DCCC and the DSCC, but haven’t heard any further.
Im really glad to see Capito there. When Byrd retires in 2012, she would be the clear Republican to run for the seat and I’ve read she could win. We better this nip this in the bud now and heavily target her.
She is definetly beatable, WV is heavily, heavily Democrat (even if they don’t vote that way in Presidential elections) and we can do it!
Im just glad to see the DCCC starting early, they’ll have the money to do it so might as well.
Even though I live in Ohio I sent a little money to Kay Barnes. I have been reading a lot of good things about her and think she would make a great Congresswoman. I urge people to give what they can in the next day or so. Lets make sure that these people have great fundraising quarters.
that the Dems are finally going on offensive. The GOP is already doing this to about 20 of our freshmen and we need to hit back hard.
I have just created an actblue page: http://actblue.com/p…
It’s never too early to start contributing to Young’s and Steven’s opponents, whomever they might be. The donations will go to the democratic nominees.
I believe that Don Young will be very vulnerable. Diane Benson showed that with minimal resource. With Stevens it’s hard to say but depending on how deeply involved he is with the Veco corruption he may become quite vulnerable as well.
Let’s get these people out of our government. It is time to undo some damage and make some progress!!
Every dollar goes a long way in a small state like Alaska.
I worked in MI-09 last year, and I’d love to be back there again.
The district is ready for the taking with the right candidate. Nancy Skinner performed below Democratic base for the district.
Rumors that former State Senator Gary Peters might enter the race are HIGHLY encouraging and have me extremely excited about the 9th! Peters is sharp, and very popular in the district. He was met with chants of “Run, Gary Run!” when he visited the Pontiac Dem club. Definitely worth targeting, good move by the DCCC.
